Clans
Clans are groups of players who share a short tag in their username. Clans fight together in Team Games, collect Clan Points, and can elect a powerful Clan Leader who receives a passive share of the Gold that clan members earn.
Clan Basics: Names & Tags
Every clan in Territorial.io is identified by a short clan name (also called a tag). The tag is written in square brackets somewhere in the username.
- Clan names must be between 1 and 7 characters long.
- Only characters are counted for the clan tag itself.
- Tags are case-insensitive. Internally, the game converts them to UPPERCASE.
Examples:
username [abc]
StrongPlayer [GER]
[X] noob123
pro [CLAN777] player
[abc], [AbC], and [ABC] are all treated as the
same clan internally.
How to Join or Create a Clan
Joining a clan
- Open the username field in Territorial.io.
- Type your name and add the desired clan tag in square brackets somewhere in your username (most players put it at the end).
- Example:
MyName [ABC]joins the clan ABC.
You do not need any special permission to join a clan. If the tag already has points, you are simply joining an existing clan. If it has no points yet, you are helping to create it.
Creating a new clan (activation)
- New tags with zero points do not appear on the clan leaderboards yet.
- A clan becomes real (active) once at least one Team Game has been won with that tag.
- Until the first win is recorded, the clan is basically just a tag in your name, without an entry on the leaderboard.
In short: if your clan has never had any points, you must win at least one Team Game with that clan tag to properly create it and make it show up on the official lists.
Clan Points & Leaderboards
Clans gain points based on won Team Games. The exact formula for how many points a win is worth can change over time, but the important rules are:
- Only Team Game wins generate clan points.
- All players in the winning team who use the same tag contribute to that clan’s points.
- Points are used to build the global clan leaderboards.
Decay and clan deletion
Clan points do not stay forever. If a clan stops winning, its points will slowly move back towards 0.
- Over time, inactive clans lose points due to decay.
- If a clan reaches 0 points again, or is among the lowest ranked clans with very few points, it can be deleted automatically to keep the list clean.
Clan Leader & Requirements
Every clan can have exactly one Clan Leader at a time. The leader is chosen through a clan-internal election.
Who can become Clan Leader?
- A candidate must be a player who uses the clan tag.
- The candidate must have this clan set as their primary clan.
- The candidate must have generated points for this clan in Team Games.
- A player who never earned points for the clan cannot be elected as its leader.
Who can vote?
Not every member automatically has a full vote. To take part in clan elections, you must:
- Play for the clan using its tag.
- Have actually earned Clan Points for that clan.
- Have this clan set as your primary clan.
Your primary clan is defined as the clan for which you currently have the most monthly points.
If these conditions are met, you can cast a vote for one player (who also earned points for the clan) to be the leader. The player with the highest total received voting power becomes the Clan Leader.
Losing Clan Leader Status
A player can only be and remain the Clan Leader of a clan if that clan is their primary clan. A Clan Leader immediately loses all of their Clan Leader Points and their leadership position if:
- their primary clan points drop to zero, or
- another clan becomes their new primary clan (because it now has the highest monthly points).
Voting Power & Voting Limits
Voting weight based on monthly points
Your vote is not simply “one person, one vote”. The weight of your vote is proportional to the monthly points you have earned for that clan.
- If you earn more points for a clan this month, your vote becomes more powerful.
- Very active players therefore have more influence on who becomes the leader.
Example:
- Player A earned 100 points for the clan this month.
- Player B earned 500 points for the clan this month.
- Player B’s vote counts roughly 5× stronger than Player A’s vote in the leader election (because 500 is 5 times 100).
How often can you change your vote?
- A clan member can elect a Clan Leader exactly once per week.
- At the beginning of each week, the server resets your voting right.
- Once you have voted in a given week, you cannot vote again until the next weekly reset.
Gold Income for Clan Leaders
Clan Leaders receive a percentage share of the Gold that their clan members earn in all game modes.
Which game modes count?
Any Gold earned in the following modes generates income for the clan leader:
- Team Game
- Battle Royale (BR)
- 1v1
- Zombie
Primary vs. secondary clan players
The game distinguishes between primary clan players and secondary clan players. Your primary clan is the one for which you have the most monthly points.
The leader’s share of Gold is:
- 2% of all winnings from a primary clan player.
- 1% of all winnings from a secondary clan player.
This Leader share does not reduce the player’s own income. Players always receive their full Gold reward; the Leader’s share is added on top by the server.
Example:
- You win a game and earn 100 Gold while playing as a primary member of clan [ABC].
- The Clan Leader of [ABC] automatically receives 2% = 2 Gold from that win.
Over time, especially in active clans, this passive income can grow very large for the leader, particularly if the clan is in the global Top 10.
Clan Politics, Power & Vote Rewards
Because Clan Leaders receive a constant stream of Gold from all their members, they can accumulate significant economic and political power inside Territorial.io.
Using income for propaganda and vote rewards
- Leaders can afford large Propaganda Campaigns to promote their clan or themselves.
- Some Clan Leaders use the Territorial.io API to automatically pay Gold to clan members who vote for them in elections. These automated Gold payments can be configured so that players with more monthly points receive higher payouts for their vote.
